Natasza is back!
Polish sailor, Natasza Caban, 32, is coming back to Honolulu,
where she left in July 2007, after sailing solo around the world
on her S&S 34 sailing yacht Tanasza Polska Ustka.
She has covered almost 26,000 miles. On Tuesday 12/1/09, when
she reaches Hawaii Yacht Club, she will become one of the youngest
women in history to sailed solo around the world. Her cruise
is something more than a sports challenge, though. It is for
a good cause, too. There is a social aspect to it, which makes
Natasza and her endeavor totally different form what other female
solo sailors have done.
The cruise was divided into sixteen parts. Due to bad weather
conditions on the Pacific, the last leg of the cruise turned
out to be a bit longer than expected - on her way from Panama
to Honolulu, Natasza had to stop at Galapagos and the Marquesas
Islands (to avoid the Pacific hurricane season).
One of the main aims of the cruise was to carry out charity
campaigns in cooperation with the Against the Odds Foundation
from Poland, as a result, Natasza made the dreams of two disabled
children come true she invited them to her yacht during
the break in the cruise, and they sailed with her in the area
of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Saint Lucia.
All that was possible thanks to Nataszas sheer determination,
8-year long preparations, and the support of great friends during
the whole cruise.
Please join us in welcome Natasza back to Hawaii around 4pm
today! We will have a short dock side party as soon as she arrives.
On Thursday Morning 12/3/09, please join us at the Hawaii Yacht
Club from 9:00 to 11:00 am to meet and greet her, a rededication
of her yacht, and some speeches, coffee and light foods.

Lahaina Return NOR + Entry
Please find the Notice of Race and Entry Form on the HYRA website.
Aloha sailors,
I cant believe were already in late August, and
Lahaina is just around the corner. Next weekend we are scheduled
to have the Lahaina feeder to Lanai, but it seems there is some
lack of interest for this race, so it will most likely not take
place. It would have been a great time, maybe we will try it
again next year. It is a busy sailing season and everyone cherishes
those lazy weekends that dont involve sailing.
Last year for the Lahaina Return we had 39 boats in the race,
and this years goal is to have at least 45 boats. Please
let us know if youre racing, so that we can get a head
count.
I have also made a deal with Maui Zen Day Spa for those who
are interested. Basically, if 5 or more of us book a massage
for the same day, they will give 15% discount off their regular
prices. Please see the attached flyer and when you book mention
the Lahaina Return Special.
If you have any questions, please e-mail or call me.
Hope to see all of you in Lahaina in about 2 weeks time.

Wine Tasting cancelled
HYC Members,
Due to the lack of response I sadly must cancel the wine tasting
for tonight at HYC. It takes a lot of planning to do this event
as we try to have cheese, crackers and fruit to try to match
the tasting. In order to do this we need a reservation response,
this time we had to. I am sorry we cannot go to the expense
of guessing how many people will show and hope that we have
the correct number of bottles and the right amount of food to
go around.
I can only hope that in the future when we try to do one of
these we can get more participation, This take everyones time
and effort to put these together and make them something special.
If you have any questions please call me and not Mey as she
is not in charge of this and cannot answer your questions.
Thank you
Robbie Santanello

HYC Lanai Race - Lahaina Feeder
Aloha Racers,
we are planning to run the Lanai Race as a feeder to Lahaina.
The race is scheduled to occur on Saturday, August 29 and would
probably have a start around 7:00 AM. The finish line will likely
be at Kaumalapau Harbor, Lanai. There are some excellent anchorages
in Lanai, with some of the best diving in the state. Multihulls,
cruisers, and all other race boats are invited to participate.
However, we have no idea what the interest level amongst the
fleet is.
If you are interested in participating in this race, please
send an email to hyc.racecommittee@gmail.com, or call Joseph
at 497-9155.
aloha,

Roy Disney's New Letter
Following his letters published in 2005 and 2007 about the
Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, Roy Disneys letter has been
published in todays Honolulu Star-Bulletin and the Honolulu
Advertiser.

From the Honolulu Star-Bulletin
Ala Wai repairs garner praise
What a pleasant surprise!
Two years ago, and indeed four years ago as well, I spoke on
behalf of many others regarding the sad state of the Ala Wai
Small Boat Harbor, and the rather grim aspect it presented to
the visitor to Honolulu, and especially to the racers arriving
there after the long and grueling biannual Transpac sailing
race from California.
Shortly afterwards, I was privileged to spend some time at
DOBOR with Laura Thielen and her staff, and learned that plans
were already under way to remedy the situation, with the explicit
approval of Gov. Linda Lingle.
In the intervening two years, a great deal has been accomplished,
including a total of 248 brand new -- and beautiful -- slips
at rows B, C, D and F, as well as a number of other improvements
on the surrounding dry areas. And I understand there are more
improvements in the works, especially to Row 700 and Row 500.
There are many others who deserve thanks as well, including
Mayor Mufi Hannemann, the state Legislature, the Transpac Honolulu
Committee, all the affected yacht clubs, and volunteers galore.
I know I can speak for everyone who raced to Hawaii this year
... and doubtless for many, many more, visitors and residents
alike, when I extend my most sincere congratulations and thanks
for the wonderful steps that have been taken at the Ala Wai.
It was a great sight to see!

Ala wai harbor Improvements have been wonderful
What a pleasant surprise!
Two years ago, and indeed four years ago as well, you were
kind enough to print letters from me speaking on behalf
of many others regarding the sad state of the Ala Wai
Small Boat Harbor, and the rather grim aspect it presented to
the visitor to Honolulu, and especially to the racers arriving
there after the long and grueling biannual Transpac sailing
race from California.
Shortly afterward, I was privileged to spend some time at the
Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation with Laura Thielen
and her staff, and learned that plans were already under way
to remedy the situation.
In the intervening two years, a great deal has been accomplished,
including a total of 248 brand new and beautiful
slips at rows B, C, D, and F, as well as a number of other improvements.
And I understand there are more improvements in the works, especially
to row 700 and row 500 (which many of us know fondly as "Transpac
Row").
There are many others who deserve thanks as well, including
Mayor Hannemann, the state Legislature, the Transpac Honolulu
Committee, all the affected yacht clubs and volunteers.
I extend my most sincere congratulations and thanks for the
wonderful steps that have been taken at the Ala Wai.
