Be Proud and Show your Card!
We as Membership Committee are here to serve and to process all current members concerns and new applications; however, recruitment is a TEAM EFFORT and a Hawaii Yacht Club member’s responsibility. And each individual has their OWN way in recruiting! Here is one member’s recruitment thought..
"I bring friends down all the time and I don’t "push" membership. We all have financial obligations, mortgages, babies, weddings, other parties…this is the only club, where it’s sooooo reasonable, and the people are real…we take cash, we take charge cards….you can "stumble" in and anyone will talk to you…….just INVITE guests down and they are all potential members….Hawaii Yacht Club and its members, its employees, will draw people to join….this is the finest point for me, as a member….after a hard day’s work, I know I will always come down to the club and see a friend…" Hawaii Yacht Club member Kathleen Maher
Every SECOND Tuesday of the month, the general membership meets at 6:30 pm on the upper deck. This meeting is a privilege and an honor in that it provides a monthly venue, where a regular member is able to "voice and vote" ! This upcoming July meeting is of particular note as it will be a vote for a 10% increase across all membership category annual dues. Flag officers and the Board of Governors are accountable to the membership and this is the forum to have them hear you! Be there and be part of the foundation and growth of Hawaii Yacht Club.
Our Flag Officers and Board of Governors have been elected by membership to provide the vision for Hawaii Yacht Club. But they do not live in a vacuum. Their decisions are based on historical and current events that result in financial soundness coupled with the individual yet familial priorities of the HYC ohana. Much easier said than done. Many capital improvements that were approved long ago and recently, have not been implemented, as the labor has not been available for these projects! Hawaii Yacht Club has been and continues to be built by volunteers. Our elevator, approved and funded years ago, was built last quarter of 2007, as a result of a cohesive team of volunteers spearheaded by a team of volunteer leaders. If not for this dynamic and energetic team, this elevator lift would not have been completed. It was the volunteers who made the time to do this, and who made it happen. This project is an example of the REAL profile which is Hawaii Yacht Club. You, the members, make this club everything it is….do NOT forget that each of you, in your own colorful way, make this club unique. We need to continue to meld and continue to grow and evolve in keeping with yacht club traditions.
We welcome your continued assistance in bringing guests to Hawaii Yacht Club, and you’re hosting them during their visit. Again, for every new member you bring into the club, our financial base becomes stronger and new energy and ideas expand and support our yachting core.
Hawaii Yacht Club, built by members, for members, a privilege to serve….Linell Kam
