Lt. Col. GEORGE "JIM" HEIL
May 29, 1917 ~ Dec 24, 2010

“Our Beloved Friend”

"God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you
and whispered come with me.
With tearful eyes,
we watched and saw you pass away. Although we love you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
he only takes the best....

Aloha Jim Heil

Our friend, and long time Hawaii Yacht Club member, Jim Heil, passed away Christmas Eve, 2010, at the young age of 93.

Following World War II Jim spent several more years years in Europe, overseeing all of the skiing, restaurants, bars and other recreational facilities in Austria and nearby vicinities.

Following his service in the Korean War, Jim retired from active duty in 1962.

Jim worked with the Public Safety Department at 919 Ala Moana until his retirement in 1982.

Following the death of his first wife Edie, Jim joined the Hawaii Yacht Club in 1996, sponsored by Leslie Vargas, and served on the Membership Committee for approximately 12 years.

Jim met his current wife, Patti Naiyoke at the Hawaii Yacht Club.

They cruised with Patti's grandchildren thru the Panama Canal 2004, and following Jim and Patti's wedding in 2009, cruised through Alaska's Inside Passage for their honeymoon.

They then drove across the United States mainland in 2010, for roughly 3500 miles to visit all of the family and children.

Jim enjoyed orchard farming, fishing, hunting, and golf.

He attended Church at the Hale Koa Chapel for the last 40 years.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patti Naiyoke, one daughter, Frances Taney Rodriguez (Joe), step-sons Robert & Kirk Tavener, and step-daughters Deborah Masters & Cynthia Wood.
