JR./KEIKI FISHING TOURNAMENT – Sunday January 31,2010;
Hawaii Yacht Club and Waikiki Yacht Club encourage children to enjoy a morning of fishing aboard some of Hawaii’s GREAT fishing yachts and an afternoon of swimming, games and lunch BBQ. If you have never experienced the joy of someone….yelling…YOU HOOKED A BIG ONE….then don’t forget our tournament….and bring your best friend….bring two friends. Hawaii Yacht Club and Waikiki Yacht Club are again thrilled to have children from the following community organizations join our 27th annual tournament…..Palama Settlement, Kuhio Park Terrace, Hale Kipa Youth Services and the HPD Police Activities League. It will indeed be a great tournament.

There are some exciting changes which evolved from a planning session: Wikoliana Educational Excursions will join this tournament, educating the children about ocean awareness and the importance of releasing their fish…The Pro’s call it….”Tag and Release”. Ninth grade students from St. Andrews Priory School will be aboard each fishing vessel. Their job will be to take photos of the angler’s with their fish, weigh the fish, and return the fish back to the beautiful blue Pacific. A special Waikiki Yacht Club awards ceremony will project photos of all winners on a flat screen TV. Swimming, games and food will additionally be part of the afternoon’s events.

Angler and skipper registration will take place at Hawaii Yacht Club, along with the angler and skipper briefings. Rods, reels, bait, hooks and children’s life jackets will be handed out while boarding fishing vessels. Swim relays, BBQ, and trophy presentation will be held at Waikiki Yacht Club. All anglers are winners and will receive a prize. The WYC Shuttle will be available and run between the clubs.

Results of the tournament will be published in the March bulletin and posted around the clubs.

The committee is looking forward to another successful event and would like to thank founders Jim O’hara and Stan Thornton for providing children a fishing opportunity and a day of “Fun ‘n’ The Sun”.

Mark your calendar for the Memorial Day “All U Can Eat Pancake” Breakfast, Monday May 31st, 8:30 am to noon. Bring your friends and enjoy a relaxing breakfast cooked and served by HYC volunteers. Veterans will once again receive a complimentary breakfast. More information will be forthcoming.
