Hawaii Yacht Club ~ Vice-Commodore, April, 2012Ahoy Members, Well another month has past. Some memorable moments, the delivery of a jukebox which is no cost to the club and we get 40% of each dollar spent. In the first 3 weeks the club made $109.20 and I had a blast watching and listening to everyone's song choices. We also had swap meets open to the public with some interest in memberships. But the best part was I got rid of 6 boxes of stuff from storage. I hope everyone had fun on St. Patrick's Day. We had fabulous food, great music and plenty of green beer. Thank you for your help Mary Loo. What great decorating Barbara Dove, Anjte Gruenewald and Zimm, thank you! On April 8th, we will have some fun with Easter brunch. Watch for more information to be posted and put on the website. And on Sunday, April 15th, we will use our lower galley for a private party membership drive dinner from 6 to 8 pm so plan accordingly. Also check the fishing and sailing columns for their events. The Galley is now open for "window service" Tuesday 11am to 7pm. Another chance to eat their great pizzas and sandwiches. Don't forget to come to the club and enjoy the music, food, sunsets,
boat races and fishing tournaments. Thank you everyone for your support. Smiles, March, 2012Ahoy Members, What a busy month February has been. We had a real nice turn out for Super Bowl. The chefs got into the fun by sharing their couch, placed right in front of the big screen TV borrowed from the Cruising and Voyaging Society, with a raffle winner. The Galley made and served some great food. And let's not forget the Commodore passing the hat for a new TV and all the wonderful people who pitched in. Thank you everyone for joining the fun. The Valentine Dinner was not on Valentine's Day and I'm being told that was why there was only a small turnout. Michele Hanson, Janet M., her mother Lida Bray and Lorraine Tobin, they had the dining area looking very beautiful and classy. Thank you for your creative and hard work. We had a very special band one Saturday and Friday, The Denali Mountain
Boys, all the way from Alaska. They played some great bluegrass, country,
Hawaiian and even pop music. Hope you didn't miss them. The next special event coming up in March is the Membership Drive Swap Meet. Howie and Barbara Mednick are the brains behind this potential on-going event. It is March 10th, 8am to when we finish. Tables will be available for $20 and you can sell anything legal you want. See or email Howie or myself about space. Then there is St. Patrick's Day which on a Saturday, March 17. The Galley will prepare great Irish food. It will probably not be a ticketed event so either they will make specials to go with their menu or have a buffet. Please be sure to check the club for posters, or our website for information. I will also ask the office to send out email blasts. Please remember that these events are for you. It is a way to support the club and have some fun at the same time. If you don't volunteer your time to participate then the events will become a thing of the past. So far I do not have anyone signed up for Memorial Day. Please don't be upset with me if there is no recognition of this or any future normal HYC event. I don't think we should rely on the same handful of volunteers for everything and I cannot do it all. I will be having another volunteer sign up for July through December events sometime soon but if you already have some ideas for any events please see or email me now. I need chair people who can help me. We have had some big changes at the club and now we need to pull together even more. Please stay true to our club and it will pay off. Thank you everyone for your support. Smiles, Diana Cummings February, 2012Aloha members, Wow, where does the time go? I did not realize the club did so many things in a month and guess what? I'm involved in most of them. Too bad I have a day job. I could really enjoy throwing parties for a living. But I must get back to reality. The recruitment party gave me some hope for future events and what to expect. Thank you to everyone who signed up to help me. Right out of the box was the Chinese New Year which will be over by the time you read this. Thank you to Howie and Barbara Mednick, Barb Dove and Bill Beadle for keeping this tradition going. So February is going to be a busy, fun month. We have our regular Friday and Saturday night music, which is for your listening and dancing pleasure. And then to spice things up on Saturday, February 18 and Friday, February 24 the Denali Mountain Boys are coming from Alaska to perform with Patty Clayton, a double treat. So put on your cowboy boots and hat and come on down to the club. But wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. February 5th is Super Bowl Sunday at the Super club for a Super time. The Galley will be providing some Super special food and Fred with his Super fun trivia. Super! Valentine Dinner will be served Saturday, February 11th with the music of Kimberlei and Tommy. So bring your special person to the club and enjoy a heart healthy meal and a heart pounding sunset. Last but not lest we will have a "Boaters Carnival Sunday" on February 19th, it will be HYC's version of Fat Tuesday. To create that carnival atmosphere we are featuring the upbeat Latin Jazz music of Espiritu Libre. So put on your feathers, beads and mask and conga on down to the club to check out the carnival. Remember Monday is a holiday. So with the Junior
Fishing Tournament and Kokohead Sailboat Race, February is going to
be action packed. Make sure you get to the club and enjoy. And please
let me know what you think. Smiles, January, 2012Ahoy members, Another year gone and a new one starts. And we are going to have fun,
fun, fun! I want to say thank you to everyone who have been very supportive and
giving good wishes to me for taking on the lead volunteer position. I
hope I can inspire everyone to be part of the fun by either volunteering
or attending our events. We need members to show appreciation to those
who step up and create entertaining and fun events by attending. We will be having the annual Commodore's Appreciation and Vice-Commodore's
Volunteer Recruitment Party on January 15. This party is for the Commodore
to say thanks to everyone who participated in last year's events and for
everyone to sign up for this year's events. I will be asking you to sign
up for events from January to June. Then in June we will do it again for
events from July to December. Meanwhile come listen and enjoy our Friday and Saturday night bands.
Let me know what you think, we have tried to meet your expectations but
due to budget constraints it is sometimes difficult. The Galley has been
great with their specials and tasty food. And don't forget there is a
sail boat race every Friday night. Look for new and exciting changes to
take place with RC Loo. Don't let me forget the office and their support, thank you. I promise
to work with you and make this as easy on your already busy schedule. Happy New Year to all and don't forget we are all in this together! Smiles, |
